Review: Espresso House at Olav V’s Gate in Oslo

While we did enjoy Stockfleth’s coffee in Oslo, I do believe that I prefer Espresso House. It is a local chain that has several locations throughout Oslo, but we went into the large, two-story location atĀ Olav V’s Gate 2, Oslo, Oslo 0161. That’s just due south of The National Theatre. Coincidentally, this shop is also a great place to find a free public restroom in Oslo (it’s up on the second level).

We tried two different sweet items, because sweets and coffee are the perfect match.

And, one of us got a latte and the other regular coffee.

As expected, the coffee was nice and smooth. Perfection, really. In fact, this was probably the best coffee that we had while in Olso (in June 2014).

As for the sweet treats, they were also quite tasty. We ended up with a Swedish chocolate ball and some type of brownie that was topped with caramel, pecans, marshmallows and other yummy goodness. The brownie was VERY rich!

One thing to note is that you can get free tap water at Espresso House with your coffee, which is very nice. Don’t you hate when coffee shops make you pay for a glass of water?

Additionally, this place is quite large and there is a LOT of seating. Wi-fi is free and did not require a password for access when we were there.

If you check out this coffee shop, then don’t worry about any language barrier as each staff member seemed to speak great English. And, they were all very nice.

Review: Stockfleth’s Prinsens Gate in Oslo

August 14, 2014 By Shawna Leave a Comment

stockfleths coffee in OsloNorway is known for their coffee, which made the prospect of visiting a local coffee shop very exciting for us. And when we discovered that a local shop was located just down the street from our hotel, we determined that it would be out first taste of Norwegian coffee.

The shop that we visited is called Stockfleth’s and we were at the Prinsens gate location, which is apparently the largest one for this chain.

It is actually a two-story cafe, with the larger seating area being below street level.

Prices here are typical of what you see in Oslo – around 35 NOK for a cup of coffee.

The end result here is a very satisfying and very smooth cup of java.

Do note that by American standards, this is a very small cup of coffee. And for junkies like us, not nearly enough!

If you’re hungry, they also serve food that you can eat downstairs (or in one of the stools by the window or on the benches outside).

Would we drink coffee from Stockfleth’s again? Yes!

You can find this location in the Sentrum (old city center) at Prinsens gate 6, 0152 Oslo.

Opening hours are:
Monday – Friday 07:00-18:00
Saturday 10:00-17:00

If you plan on drinking your coffee inside (or eating something there), then you’ll likely be interested to know that they do offer free wi-fi access. You just need to get the password at the register when you pay for your drinks and food.

And don’t worry about the language barrier as the staff spoke perfect English when we were there.
